Use a car for rural, island or mountain routes where the complete public-transport chain is poor. Avoid renting merely to cross dense central Seoul, where parking and traffic can erase the benefit.
Before payment, ask the rental company to confirm your age, passport, home licence and international driving permit or other accepted licence document for the exact driver and vehicle class.
Watch out An IDP format is not automatically accepted for every issuing country, treaty or rental company.
Check named drivers, vehicle class, fuel or charging rule, mileage, toll device, deductible, excluded damage, roadside help, cancellation and late-return fees. Save the signed version.
Film every side, wheels, glass, roof, interior, fuel or battery level and dashboard warnings with the vehicle still in the pickup area. Make staff record existing damage.
Enter the Korean destination or phone number before moving. Drive on the right, obey km/h limits, wear seatbelts, yield to pedestrians and never use a handheld phone or drive after drinking.

Confirm whether the car has Hi-pass and which lane to use. Park only where permitted, refuel or recharge to the contract level, photograph the final condition and keep the return receipt.
