Using a Korean convenience store

Use a staffed branch when you need help, pay before using any food-preparation station, follow that branch's microwave, ramyeon and seating signs, and treat transport-card reloads, tax refunds and extra services as branch-specific until confirmed.

Match the shelf label to the exact size and flavor, then use camera translation on the ingredient and allergen panel when the food restriction matters. Ask staff when a promotion or bundle price is unclear.

    Look for Price 가격 · Ingredients 원재료명 · Allergens 알레르기 · 1+1 · 2+1

Watch out A package picture, product name or front-of-pack icon cannot prove that a food is free of an allergen, pork, alcohol or animal ingredients.

AVOID THESE MISTAKES

5 mistakes worth remembering.

Opening or heating food before paying.

Do this instead Pay for the unopened item first, then use the preparation area.

Assuming every item in a promotion is interchangeable.

Do this instead Match the exact shelf tag, size and marked partner item or ask staff before checkout.

Relying on a package picture for an allergy or dietary rule.

Do this instead Translate the full label and ask for help; choose a clearly labelled alternative when uncertainty remains.

Expecting every branch to reload a card or issue a tax refund the same way.

Do this instead Confirm the service, payment method and eligibility at that branch before depending on it.

Leaving food and liquid in the recycling bin.

Do this instead Follow the posted waste categories and ask staff if the bin labels are unclear.

TRAVELER FAQ

Answers before you leave.

Can I buy Tmoney at a convenience store?

Yes. Official tourism guidance lists major convenience-store chains as Tmoney retail locations. Card designs and stock vary, so ask the staff for 티머니 카드.

Can I reload Tmoney with a foreign card?

Do not assume it. Accepted reload payment methods can differ by card, branch and machine. Ask before checkout and keep Korean won as a backup.

Can I eat inside every convenience store?

No. Some branches have seats and food-preparation equipment; others do not or restrict use by time. Follow the signs and staff instructions at that branch.

Do all convenience stores provide an immediate tax refund?

No. Official guidance says select convenience stores participate. Look for the certified tax-refund sign and confirm eligibility before payment.

Can staff confirm that a product is safe for my allergy?

Staff can help locate or read a label, but they may not be able to guarantee ingredients or cross-contact. For a serious allergy, use the complete manufacturer label and your own translated allergy card.

Are convenience stores always open 24 hours?

No. Many are open late, but hours and staffing are set by the branch. Check the current map listing and the door notice.
