One first day in Seoul without crossing the city twice

서울에서 단 하루만 있다면One palace, one lived-in neighbourhood, a complete lunch, one practical city stop, a Namsan choice and a lit central return—built from the same maintained Seoul day used by the region hub.
A useful Seoul day is one connected corridor with a real meal and a confirmed way home, not six famous pins in six directions.

THE EDITED ROUTE

6 stops, each with a reason.

Times create a useful rhythm. They are not promises about opening hours or travel time.
01

ONE CONNECTED DAY

Old Seoul first, one modern task, public lights last

The times are pacing, not opening hours. Remove a stop when heat, rain, mobility, queues or a late start make the route too heavy.
  1. 01

    Gyeongbokgung Palace

    경복궁

Start at one palace while energy is high; recheck the closed day, admission and any ceremony before entering.

Current admission and free-entry conditions must be checkedCarry water and do not treat rented clothing as permission to ignore site rules
  2. 02

    Bukchon public visitor route

    북촌한옥마을

Move a short distance into a lived-in hanok neighbourhood and stay on public visitor streets without photographing private doors.

Public streets are freeKeep voices low and leave residential lanes when local controls require it
  3. 03

    Insadong lunch

    인사동길

Choose one complete meal near the old-city route before the afternoon rather than turning every snack into a stop.

Read the displayed menu before orderingAsk about meat stock, seafood, nuts and other allergens
  4. 04

    Myeongdong practical stop

    명동역

Use the central district for one real task—shopping, a café, currency or a rest—then leave instead of collecting storefronts.

Set a personal shopping ceilingKeep receipts only when needed for returns or tax-refund eligibility
  5. 05

    Namsan sunset choice

    남산서울타워

Choose the public Namsan walk or a paid observatory layer according to weather, mobility and the live final descent.

Public park and commercial observatory are separateCheck wind, visibility and the last useful descent before going up
  6. 06

    Cheonggyecheon public walk

    청계천 광교

End with one lit central walk near transit, while flood, weather and event controls remain more important than the saved route.

Public walk is free when openUse a staffed station or main road for the final return

EDITOR’S NOTES

The choices that make this edit work.

ROUTE RULE

Stay north of the river

The first day already has history, a lived-in neighbourhood, shopping or rest, a viewpoint and a night walk. A south-Seoul detour costs the part of the day you came to enjoy.

One corridor · fewer transfers
REMOVE FIRST

Drop Myeongdong or Namsan

When the start is late or the weather turns, keep the palace, lunch and final return. The shopping stop and high viewpoint are optional layers.

Protect the meal and return
AFTER THE VISIT

Leave one dated field note

Record a changed public entrance, queue, payment or access condition after leaving. Do not post faces, receipts, accommodation or a resident's doorway.

BEFORE YOU GO

What can still change

  • Gyeongbokgung opening, closure, admission, guided programs and ceremony schedules can change. Open the responsible heritage page that morning.
  • Bukchon is a lived-in neighbourhood. Current restricted hours, resident signs and on-site staff instructions outrank this route.
  • Namsan park access, commercial observatory admission, weather visibility and the final useful descent are separate live checks.
  • Cheonggyecheon can close for rain, flooding, maintenance or events. Use the street-level return when barriers or notices say so.
