ILLUSTRATED GUIDE
Read the pictures for the route. Read the text for the numbers.
- The storyboard footer prints “About 43 minutes” and “About 58 minutes”. These are text inside the illustration, not current journey promises; use the official live timetable for the exact terminal and service.
- Platform code “A01”, machine layouts and sign wording are drawn from memory of the terminal, not photographed in it. Treat them as orientation and read the real signs on the day.
STEP BY STEP
What you actually do, in order.
- 01
Land and clear arrivals
Both terminals put you into an arrivals hall with the transport level below it. Nothing about the train starts until you are through immigration and have your bags.
Look for Arrivals · 입국
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are different buildings with different stations. Follow signage for the terminal you actually landed at.

- 02
Follow the Airport Railroad signs down
AREX is signed as 공항철도 / Airport Railroad, and the platforms are on the basement transportation level. The same signs list the two services you are about to choose between.
Look for 공항철도 · Airport Railroad (AREX) · Transportation Center (B1)

- 03
Choose the service and exact ticket method
The all-stop fare and reserved-seat Express ticket are separate products. Match the service, terminal, destination and passenger type on the current official machine, counter or booking screen.
Look for 승차권 발매 · 교통카드 충전기 · Ticket / T-money Reload
Ticket purchase and stored-value reload methods can differ. Preserve the first result and ask staff before retrying an unclear payment.

- 04
Go to the right platform
Express and all-stop leave from the same level but are separate services with separate boarding areas. Check which one your ticket or tap is for before you go down.
Look for 공항철도 타는 곳 · Tracks

- 05
Board the train
The Express has reserved seats and luggage space. The all-stop is a commuter train: no reserved seat, and it fills up at the stations between the airport and the city.
The all-stop train has no reserved seating. With large luggage, the stairs and transfers at the far end are the hard part, not the ride.

- 06
Ride into the city
The Express runs to Seoul Station without stopping. The all-stop calls at every station on the line, including Hongik Univ. for the Hongdae area and Gongdeok for line 5 and 6 transfers.

- 07
Arrive at Seoul Station
AREX arrives at its own platforms below the main Seoul Station complex, signed A01. Expect a walk and at least one long escalator to reach the main concourse or the subway lines.
Look for A01 · 서울역 · Seoul Station · 공항철도 AREX

- 08
Exit, or transfer
Seoul Station connects to subway lines 1 and 4, KTX services and a large bus interchange. If your accommodation is not near Seoul Station, this is where you change rather than where you finish.
Work out your transfer before you arrive. Seoul Station is big, and the AREX exit is not next to the line you probably want.

CHECKED FACTS

- All-stop fare and Express reservation are different productsCheck the exact origin, destination, passenger type and current fare on the official screen before paying.
- Terminal access
- Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have separate B1 railroad accessFollow the station signs for the terminal shown on the arriving flight.
- Complete journey
- Live train plus the Seoul onward legCompare the ticket queue, departure, transfer, elevator and final walk rather than the train segment alone.
- Late arrivals
- Check the last useful connection on arrival dayThe final train alone is not enough if the onward transfer or accommodation access ends earlier.
