THE CHECKED LIST

A complete 09:00–21:15 solo day with eight low-friction stops.

Follow the stops in order, but treat every one as optional. The route moves mostly east and includes two real meal breaks.
MORNING · 09:00–13:10

Start quietly, learn the context and eat at your own pace

This opening works best Wednesday through Monday. Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays, and Tongin Market's lunchbox café also normally closes that day.

  1. 01

    Gyeongbokgung Palace

    경복궁
    09:00 · 90 min

Enter at opening for quieter courtyards, then choose a small set of halls instead of trying to document the entire palace alone.

SOLO FIT · A regular adult foreign-visitor ticket is inexpensive; eligible ages and properly worn hanbok can qualify for free entry under current rules.CHECK FIRST · Closed Tuesdays, with seasonal closing and last-admission times. Free-entry conditions and guided-tour times must be checked on the official page.
  2. 02

    National Folk Museum of Korea

    국립민속박물관
    10:30 · 60 min

Add the everyday-life context that palace architecture cannot explain, with galleries that are comfortable to browse at your own speed.

SOLO FIT · Museum exhibitions are free and do not require an individual online reservation; the Children's Museum follows separate reservation rules.CHECK FIRST · The museum and palace have different closure rules and access points. Foreign-language docent schedules can change and should remain a bonus, not a dependency.
  3. 03

    Tongin Market lunch

    통인시장
    12:00 · 70 min

Build a small brass-coin lunchbox from participating stalls or choose one straightforward market dish without needing a restaurant companion.

SOLO FIT · Browsing is free; pay for the food you choose, and remember that only participating stalls accept the lunchbox tokens.CHECK FIRST · Store hours vary. The lunchbox café normally closes Tuesdays, and the whole market closes on the third Sunday; confirm the latest notice before relying on it.
AFTERNOON · 13:35–17:30

Use public space, crafts and one proper café pause

Walk back toward Gwanghwamun, then continue east. If your feet are tired, skip the square or take the subway one stop rather than protecting the checklist.

  1. 04

    Gwanghwamun Square

    광화문광장
    13:35 · 40 min

Use the long public square to orient yourself between the palace, city centre and Cheonggyecheon before continuing east.

SOLO FIT · The public square is free; temporary exhibitions, events and nearby indoor venues set their own rules.CHECK FIRST · Large civic events can change pedestrian flow. In extreme heat, heavy rain or demonstrations, shorten this outdoor stop and use an indoor alternative.
  2. 05

    Ssamzi-gil · Insa-dong

    인사동 쌈지길
    14:30 · 75 min

Browse a spiral of small craft shops and galleries where stopping alone feels natural and purchases remain entirely optional.

SOLO FIT · Entry and browsing are free; workshops, tea, food and handmade goods are paid individually.CHECK FIRST · The rooftop path and surrounding street get crowded. Ask before photographing inside a shop or treating handmade work as a photo prop.
  3. 06

    Ikseon-dong café pause

    익선동 한옥거리
    16:00 · 90 min

Choose one café or dessert stop and sit down properly before the evening, using the narrow hanok lanes as atmosphere rather than a shopping mission.

SOLO FIT · Walking the neighbourhood is free; choose a venue only after checking today's menu, seating and one-order-per-person rule.CHECK FIRST · Popular cafés can queue and tiny tables may be unsuitable for luggage. Keep entrances clear and do not block the narrow alleys for photos.
EVENING · 18:00–21:15

Eat at a counter, then finish under open city lights

The final two stops continue east. Check the last train to your accommodation before dinner so the night has a clear exit plan.

  1. 07

    Gwangjang Market food alley

    광장시장 먹거리장터
    18:00 · 75 min

Pick a visible counter seat, order one clearly priced dish and eat without the formality or minimum-order pressure of a group restaurant.

SOLO FIT · There is no market admission fee; menu prices, portion sizes and payment methods vary by stall.CHECK FIRST · Food Alley keeps different hours from the general market. Confirm price and portion before ordering, protect belongings at crowded counters and state allergies clearly.
  2. 08

    Dongdaemun Design Plaza after dark

    동대문디자인플라자
    19:45 · 90 min

End with the illuminated public architecture and an easy subway connection, adding an indoor exhibition only when its current programme suits you.

SOLO FIT · Exterior public areas can be enjoyed without an exhibition ticket; shops, exhibitions and programmes have separate hours and prices.CHECK FIRST · Media façades and events are not guaranteed nightly. Stay on lit public paths and leave in time for the last practical connection to your accommodation.
