eSIM and SIM cards in Korea
Published version 1 · 2026-10-20
Most travellers get online in Korea with a data eSIM, a physical SIM or roaming from their home carrier.
Before buying
- Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked and, for an eSIM, that its settings show an eSIM or EID option.
- Data is enough for maps, translation and messaging apps. Choose a plan with a Korean phone number only if reservations or local calls really need one.
Setting it up
- Save or print the eSIM QR code, APN instructions and the provider's support contact before you lose your home connection.
- Install it without deleting your home line, choose the Korean plan for mobile data, and turn off data roaming on the home line unless your carrier says otherwise.
- Before leaving the airport, test a map, a message and your accommodation address.
If activation fails, use airport Wi-Fi and contact the seller through its official support route.
