Pharmacies and clinics for travellers
Published version 1 · 2026-10-20
For a medical emergency (severe breathing difficulty, collapse, heavy bleeding, chest pain or signs of a stroke), call 119.
For everything else
- A pharmacy can help with non-emergency over-the-counter needs and can direct you onward.
- Go to a clinic or hospital when you need an examination, a diagnosis or a prescription. Large hospitals may have international care centres.
- Bring a short note with your symptoms and when they started, your current medicines (generic names and doses), allergies and an emergency contact.
- Check the active ingredient and dose of any medicine before taking it, and keep the labelled package.
- Ask for an itemised bill or medical record for your insurer.
For non-emergency interpretation, the 1330 travel helpline can help.
