THE FOOD EDIT

18 foods, each with a reason.

The groups help you choose. They are not a challenge to eat every dish or cross the city in order.
01

SEOUL · 서울

Begin with a neighborhood, not a citywide food checklist

These pins mark useful search areas. They are not claims that one restaurant invented or best represents the dish.
  1. 01

    Seolleongtang

    설렁탕

Use central Seoul as a search start for milky ox-bone soup that diners season at the table. Choose a shop near the day's palace, museum or station route.

Current bowl price · ask whether rice is includedBeef and bones · noodles can add wheat · kimchi, salt and green onion remain separate checks
  2. 02

    Bindaetteok

    빈대떡

Gwangjang Market is a practical context for mung-bean pancakes, but compare the individual stall, queue, seating and portion before ordering.

Current stall price · confirm one piece or shared plateMung bean · pork or kimchi possible · shared griddle and frying oil · eat carefully while hot
02

INCHEON · GYEONGGI · 인천·경기

Separate the port corridor from the southern capital region

Incheon and Suwon belong to different day routes even when both appear close to Seoul on a national map.
  1. 01

    Jjajangmyeon

    짜장면

Use Incheon Chinatown as a history-and-food search gateway, then verify the exact noodle shop and menu rather than following a generic black-bean-noodle pin.

Current menu price · toppings and set menus varyWheat noodles · pork and soy common · seafood, egg and cross-contact vary by menu
  2. 02

    Wanggalbi

    왕갈비

Pair Suwon-style large beef ribs with a Hwaseong or Suwon day instead of adding a long dinner detour from central Seoul.

Current portion price · confirm minimum order and riceBeef · soy, sesame, sugar and fruit can appear in marinade · shared grill and smoke
03

GANGWON · 강원

Mountains and east coast are separate food corridors

Chuncheon and Gangneung are different bases. Choose the dish attached to the city already in the itinerary.
  1. 01

    Dakgalbi

    닭갈비

Choose a Chuncheon hot-plate chicken meal when the route already uses the city, then confirm spice level, minimum portions and optional noodles or fried rice.

Current per-person or per-portion priceChicken · spicy soy seasoning · rice cake, cheese or noodles optional · hot shared pan
  2. 02

    Chodang sundubu

    초당순두부

Use Chodang as a Gangneung tofu-district gateway and distinguish plain soft tofu from a red stew or a set with seafood and side dishes.

Current bowl or set priceSoy · broth can contain seafood or meat · shellfish, egg and kimchi require separate checks
04

CHUNGCHEONG · 충청

Use the rail hub and the province stop you actually have

Daejeon and Cheonan can fit rail journeys; they are not a reason to add an unplanned provincial loop.
  1. 01

    Kalguksu

    칼국수

Start with Daejeon's knife-cut noodles, then identify whether the exact bowl uses clam, anchovy, meat, perilla or spicy broth.

Current bowl price · sides and shared extras varyWheat · clam, anchovy or meat stock possible · kimchi and chilli remain separate checks
  2. 02

    Walnut pastry

    호두과자

Treat Cheonan walnut pastries as a station-area snack or gift attached to a real stop, not a reason to miss a train for one brand.

Current box count and posted totalWalnut and wheat · egg, dairy or shared bakery equipment possible · check freshness and storage
05

JEOLLA · 전라

Choose one southwest base before choosing the meal

Jeonju and Damyang sit in different local networks. Protect the return connection before adding a second food city.
  1. 01

    Jeonju bibimbap

    전주비빔밥

Use Jeonju's historic core as the search gateway and compare toppings, gochujang, side dishes and the complete set before choosing.

Current bowl or set priceBeef and egg common · gochujang can contain soy and wheat · sesame and banchan vary
  2. 02

    Tteokgalbi

    떡갈비

Pair grilled galbi patties with a Damyang bamboo or garden day and confirm the meat blend, portion and whether the menu requires a shared set.

Current portion or set priceBeef, pork or a blend · soy, wheat, sesame and sugar possible · grill cross-contact
06

BUSAN · 부산

Pick a west-central or east-coast meal corridor

Seomyeon, Nampo and the beach districts are not one compact food street. Keep the meal near the day's line.
  1. 01

    Dwaeji-gukbap

    돼지국밥

Use Seomyeon's pork-rice-soup area as a practical single-bowl search start, then compare meat cut, broth, offal variants and current queue.

Current bowl price · extras and boiled pork separatePork and bones · salted shrimp common · offal, noodles and table chilli vary
  2. 02

    Milmyeon

    밀면

Choose Busan wheat noodles near the route and decide between cold broth and spicy mixed versions before ordering.

Current bowl price · dumpling add-on separateWheat · broth can contain meat · spicy sauce, egg and mustard possible
07

JEJU · 제주

Choose the island side before choosing dinner

Jeju has no subway. A famous meal on the opposite coast can consume the time saved by every other plan.
  1. 01

    Black pork

    흑돼지

Use a black-pork meal only when it fits the island side and designated driver plan, then confirm cut, weight, minimum order and grill service.

Current weight and table total · rice and stew may be separatePork · shared grill · marinades, sauces and side dishes can contain soy, wheat, sesame or seafood
  2. 02

    Abalone porridge

    전복죽

Use an east-coast abalone-porridge search near a Seongsan route and confirm the actual abalone amount, stock and service time.

Current bowl price · ingredient amount variesAbalone is a mollusc · sesame oil and other seafood stock possible · not a vegetarian default
08

GYEONGJU · 경주

Keep snacks and meals inside the heritage route

The historic core is walkable, but an outer restaurant still needs a bus, taxi or parking decision.
  1. 01

    Hwangnam bread

    황남빵

Treat the filled bread as one snack or packable gift inside the Hwangnidan-gil and tomb-area route, not a substitute for a full meal.

Current piece or box priceRed-bean filling · wheat, egg or dairy possible · check package date and storage
  2. 02

    Ssambap

    쌈밥

Choose a rice-and-leaf-wrap set after checking the main protein, number of diners, side dishes and whether the restaurant fits the heritage-day route.

Current set price · minimum diners can applyMeat or fish main · soybean paste, seafood seasoning, sesame and many shared banchan possible
09

GYEONGSANG · 경상

Choose an inland city instead of collecting distant names

Andong and Daegu require different accommodation or rail plans. Save the other dish for another trip.
  1. 01

    Andong jjimdak

    안동찜닭

Use Andong's market area as a braised-chicken gateway and confirm portion size, bones, noodles and heat before a shared order.

  2. 02

    Daegu fried chicken

    대구 치킨

Connect fried chicken to a real Daegu evening and compare whole, half, boneless and sauce choices rather than ordering a cross-city delivery trend.

Current order size and delivery or table totalChicken · wheat batter · soy, dairy, nuts or shared fryer possible · portion can be large

EDITOR’S NOTES

The choices that make this edit work.

REAL MAP

Pins are city search gateways

The Leaflet layer provides real geography. A pin does not certify a restaurant, exact origin story or administrative boundary for the dish.

Open a region, then one exact venue
ROUTE FIRST

Eat where the trip already goes

Regional food adds value when it deepens a place. A six-hour detour for a checklist dish usually weakens the trip.

Protect the return before the meal
VERIFY

A dish name is not a safety label

Broth, meat cut, seafood, spice, allergens, minimum orders and shared equipment vary by restaurant.

Ask about this exact recipe
LEAVE A TRACE

Turn one meal into reusable field data

Post a dated menu, total, payment result, ordering ease, wait and access note without exposing staff, faces or receipts.

Firsthand and time-bounded
The poster is a visual memory aid. Use the structured route, live map and sources for decisions.

BEFORE YOU GO

What can still change

  • The 18 pins are editorial search gateways at city or district level. They are not restaurant locations, rankings, guarantees of origin or instructions to complete a national food challenge.
  • Choose one accommodation or transport base first. Seoul–Suwon, Chuncheon–Gangneung, Jeonju–Damyang and Andong–Daegu all need real travel time even when they share a broad map region.
  • Open the exact restaurant in a current Korean map, then verify hours, break time, last order, sold-out status, price, portion minimum, reservation and accessibility before leaving.
  • A regional association does not make every restaurant version identical. Broth, meat, seafood, egg, dairy, nuts, soy, wheat, sesame, spice and shared equipment remain dish-specific questions.
  • Market buildings and individual stalls can keep different schedules. A city tourism page is useful context but does not prove that a particular stall is open now.
  • Do not compare a current menu with an undated social post. Use an owner or official source for operations and a recent firsthand report only for what that visitor actually observed.
  • Save one meal to Trips only after protecting the return route. Island drives, rural buses, weather, alcohol and late dinners need a designated driver, licensed taxi or confirmed final connection.
  • Leave a footprint with visit date, exact Korean menu name, total, card result, wait, ordering ease, dietary answers, nearest transit and what you would pair nearby.
  • Photograph food and public exteriors only with permission where needed. Hide faces, receipts, order numbers, payment screens and private conversations.
  • Use 1330 for multilingual non-emergency travel help, 112 for police and 119 for fire or medical emergencies. Live authorities and transport operators override a saved food plan.
