Read the pictures for the route. Read the text for the numbers.

  • The route number 7022 and the Gangnam or Jamsil directions printed in the mascot artwork are illustrative. They are not a current route or stop recommendation.
  • The photographed Seoul bus shows route 1014 at night, but the photograph does not prove that it is a night-bus route or that its current path is unchanged.
  • Cash acceptance, live arrivals, final service and transfer windows are not taken from either image. The local operator and travel-day result always take priority.

STEP BY STEP

What you actually do, in order.

  1. 01

    Match the exact stop and direction

    In Naver Map or Kakao Map, compare the route number, Korean stop name, destination direction and the next two stops. The stop across the road may carry the same number but travel the opposite way.

    Look for 버스정류장 · Bus stop · 방면 Bound for

    A route number alone is not enough. Similar stop names and reused regional route numbers can put you on the correct bus in the wrong direction.

  2. 02

    Check the live arrival and the return first

    Confirm the current arrival, the full stop sequence and the final useful return service before boarding. In a smaller city or rural area, a missed bus can create a long gap rather than a short wait.

    A saved screenshot is a route reference, not a live timetable. Recheck service on the travel day and keep a taxi or earlier-return fallback for a remote stop.

  3. 03

    Ready one topped-up transit card

    Have a T-money, EZL or another locally accepted transit card ready before the bus arrives. Keep the card separate from other contactless cards so the reader sees only the one you intend to use.

    Look for 교통카드 · Transportation card

    Cashless operation varies by city and route. Do not assume the driver can sell a ticket, break a banknote or accept a foreign bank card.

  4. 04

    Let people off, board and tap once

    Most ordinary city buses board through the front door. Let alighting passengers clear the doorway, place one card flat on the reader and wait for the confirmation before moving into the aisle.

    Look for 승차 · 타는 문 · 교통카드 단말기

    If the reader rejects the card, step aside safely and ask the driver. Tapping several cards or repeatedly blocking the doorway makes the problem harder to identify.

  5. 05

    Track the route and press the stop bell

    Follow the moving route in your map app and listen for the Korean stop name. After the bus leaves the stop before yours, press a red 하차벨 / Stop button once and prepare to move only when it is safe.

    Do not wait until the bus is already passing your stop, and do not stand or walk while the vehicle is braking sharply. Ask the driver for help when the stop display and app disagree.

  6. 06

    Leave by the signed door and tap off

    Use the rear door on a standard city bus unless the vehicle or driver directs otherwise. Tap the same card on the exit reader as you leave, then move clear of the road and confirm the next walking or transfer leg.

    Missing the exit tap can affect a distance-based fare or an eligible transfer. Transfer windows and covered modes belong to the local operator, not one nationwide rule.

  7. 07

    Recover calmly if the bus is wrong

    If the bus turns away from your saved route, confirm your location before getting off. Choose a staffed, lit stop where you can reset the route, and show the driver the Korean destination if you need immediate help.

    Do not step into traffic or exit where the driver cannot stop safely. In a remote area, compare the next safe stop and the return service before leaving the vehicle.
