Local travel never outranks resident life, safety or public controls

01Each route runs between two named public anchors. Save both ends—the station you enter from and the station you will leave by—before you start walking.
02Alleys have no timetable, but the museums, churches and markets that anchor them do. Check the closure day and the sunset hour; a stair route that reads fine at 3pm reads very differently unlit.
03These are homes with people inside them. Keep your voice down after dark, do not use residential stairs as a shortcut, and photograph the street rather than the window.
04Old does not mean abandoned, public or safe to enter. Treat every unlabeled doorway, rooftop and staircase as private unless a current sign says otherwise.
