What can still change

• This is a six-choice participation guide, not a one-day itinerary. Choose two or three experiences and use the separate Topic 048 page when you specifically need a Hahoe Village day route.
• Hahoe and Yangdong are UNESCO-listed historic clan villages. Hahoe remains inhabited, so private homes, courtyards, work and residents are not exhibits; follow visitor signs, keep noise low and ask before photographing people or private property.
• Talchum was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List in 2022 as dance, music and theatre that uses humour and caricature to explore social issues. Watch the full performance context instead of reducing it to a mask selfie.
• The Hahoe performance notice published January 2, 2026 lists weekend performances in January–February and Tuesday–Sunday performances from March–December at 14:00, but it also says the schedule can change. Treat that time as a planning lead, never a guarantee.
• That January notice described a temporary underground venue during renovation expected to last until around April 2026 and warned of stair and wheelchair or stroller limits. Because that arrangement was provisional, confirm today's actual venue and step-free access directly rather than repeating the old restriction as current fact.
• Never handle, wear or market an official Hahoe mask as a casual tourist prop unless a qualified operator explicitly provides an appropriate replica activity. Follow the performer, museum, photography and intellectual-property rules in force.
• The Traditional Cultural Contents Museum is a digital interpretation museum. Its official pages describe traditional-sound listening, virtual heritage, pattern rubbing, traditional-play games and a mask-dance learning screen; individual exhibits can be unavailable or changed.
• Andong tourism pages currently disagree slightly on the museum's displayed opening time. The museum's own current notice, contact and entrance sign win over cached directory text; Monday and holiday closures must be rechecked.
• Byeongsan and Dosan are separate seowon in different directions. Choose one unless a car and a generous schedule are already secured; never present ancestral rites, shrines or restricted rooms as walk-in visitor experiences.
• At a seowon, use a quiet voice, keep food and drinks away from heritage fabric, do not sit on thresholds or climb platforms and obey every rope, sign and staff instruction. Accessibility varies by gate, gravel, slope and historic step.
• A hanok photo and a hanok stay are different products. Book a lawful accommodation directly or through a reputable platform and confirm the exact room, private or shared bathroom, floor bedding, heating or cooling, luggage access, sound rules, check-in and cancellation.
• An overnight guest is not automatically invited into a head-family ritual, kitchen, archive or private residence. Ask the host what interpretation or activity is genuinely included and accept no as a complete answer.
• Heotjesabap literally refers to a 'fake jesa' meal form and is served as local food; it must not be described as participation in a real family's ancestor rite. Actual rites are private or community practices unless explicitly opened by their custodians.
• Ask about ingredients before ordering. Jjimdak can contain chicken, soy, wheat noodles and substantial chilli or sugar; heotjesabap and side dishes can include fish, egg, soy, wheat and sesame; salted mackerel is fish and may contain bones.
• The official festival site currently lists the 2026 Andong International Maskdance Festival for September 24–October 4. Programs, venues, admission, road controls and crowd conditions can change, so open the live schedule again before publishing or travelling.
• A craft hall can offer pottery, metal craft, hanji, natural dyeing or folk-painting programs, but availability and reservation rules vary; the official city page says group programs require advance reservation. Never advertise a walk-in workshop without operator confirmation.
• Check the Andong city transport page and bus information system on the travel date. Hahoe, Byeongsan, Dosan and downtown do not form one easy walking cluster, and an old English timetable or route number must not control the return.
• Separate living heritage from staged recreation. A theme park or costume product can be enjoyable when labelled as interpretation or entertainment, but it is not evidence that visitors participated in a historical rite or local household tradition.
• Drones, tripods, flash, commercial filming and performance recording follow each venue's rules. Do not block an audience, copy a full performance, fly over residents or publish an identifiable person without appropriate permission.
• Check Korea Meteorological Administration warnings before rural travel and festival crowds. Heat, heavy rain, snow, ice, high wind or an official control overrides the saved activity; call 112 for police, 119 for fire or medical emergency and 1330 for multilingual travel support.
