Gangwon

강원

Choose one Gangwon corridor before you book the night.

Gangwon is not one day-trip zone. Chuncheon, the Sokcho coast and the Gangneung corridor use different approaches from Seoul and are easier when each day stays on one side of the province.

ONE DAY

One day in Gangneung

An order that works, with the reason for each stop. Times are a rhythm, not opening hours.
  1. Anmok Coffee Street안목해변 커피거리The reason people come; a beachfront of roasters, best before it fills.
    Open in map
  2. Gyeongpo Beach경포해수욕장Ten minutes north, and the wide beach rather than the café one.

  3. Gangneung local food강릉중앙시장The central market, for seafood and chodang tofu without a reservation.

  4. Ojukheon오죽헌A historic house inland, and the stop that makes the day more than a beach.

  5. Jeongdongjin sea view정동진역A station on the sand; the evening is calmer than the sunrise crowds.
    Open in map
  6. Night café or beach walk강릉 안목해변Back where the day started, which is short and needs no plan.
    Open in map

Why this order works

  • Coffee then coast — the two things Gangneung is actually known for.
  • One cultural stop in the middle, so the day is not only sand.
  • Sunrise coast at sunset: Jeongdongjin faces east, and the evening light is softer.
Check opening hours and closures on each place page before you go — this plan sets the order, not the facts.

ONE DAY

One day in Sokcho & Seoraksan

An order that works, with the reason for each stop. Times are a rhythm, not opening hours.
  1. Seoraksan National Park설악산국립공원The whole reason to be here, and it is a full morning.
    Open in map
  2. Sinheungsa or the cable car신흥사Inside the park, so it is the same trip rather than a second one.
    Open in map
  3. Sokcho local food속초관광수산시장Seafood and dakgangjeong at the tourist fish market, back in town.
    Open in map
  4. Abai Village or the central market아바이마을A short crossing, and a neighbourhood with its own history.
    Open in map
  5. Sokcho Beach at sunset속초해수욕장Wide, quiet, and a walk rather than another entrance fee.
    Open in map
  6. Yeonggeumjeong or Daepo Port영금정Night view over the water, and where the evening boats come in.
    Open in map

Why this order works

  • Mountain in the morning, when the cable car queue is shortest and the air is clear.
  • The market in the afternoon, because it is indoors when the legs are tired.
  • Sea at the end: the two halves of this trip are the park and the coast.
Check opening hours and closures on each place page before you go — this plan sets the order, not the facts.

Planning

Gangneung and Sokcho without a car

Choose Gangneung or Sokcho as the day's base, keep Gangneung station and coast stops in one corridor or use Sokcho's correct bus terminal and current Seoraksan route, and reserve a taxi only for the weak final segment.

CHOOSE A BASE

Three different trip shapes.

Pick the cluster that matches the reason you are going before saving individual pins.
01

Chuncheon

춘천

A short Seoul-side escape, lakes and food
WHY
It is the western gateway and works without committing to the far east coast.
TRADE-OFF
Sokcho and Gangneung are separate onward journeys, not nearby neighbourhoods.
02

Sokcho

속초

Seoraksan access, markets and the north-east coast
WHY
Use Sokcho when the national park and northern coast are the centre of the trip.
TRADE-OFF
There is no direct rail station in central Sokcho; verify the bus leg and local connection.
03

Gangneung

강릉

Rail arrival, cafés and an east-coast base
WHY
Gangneung combines a rail gateway with city services and nearby coast stops.
TRADE-OFF
A wide coastal wish list still needs buses, taxis or a car; group stops geographically.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HUB

The details that prevent a stranded day.

  1. WEATHER

Mountain and coast conditions are not Seoul conditions

Recheck weather and attraction notices on the morning of travel, especially for outdoor lifts, trails and winter roads.

  2. TRANSFER

    Write down the exact terminal

Cities can have more than one bus terminal or rail stop. Keep its Korean name and leave a buffer for the local leg.

  3. PACE

    One coast cluster per day

The map can make the coastline look close. Build around one city and its nearby stops instead of zig-zagging north and south.
